Coach Jimmy

Based on true events, this alteration of the Grateful Dead tune, "Row Jimmy," details my sophmore year of college crew. My coach was Jimmy, my coxswain was Julie. It was irresistible.

Julie hit a buoy with the bow
Come back dock, like to run aground
Get on course where you belong
and don't you run off no more

Don't hang you're head let the two-man row
Fiberglass shell with a pine wood oar
Half the time, baby I don't know
Seems much later than we're s'posed to go

And I say coach, Jimmy, coach
Gonna get there?
I don't know
Seems a common way to row
Get out'n coach, coach, coach
coach, coach

Hear her voice a hollar through the air
inaudible call, time to switch a pair
Look at Julie down the boat
doesn't know that the speaker's out

And I say coach, Jimmy, coach
Gonna get there?
I don't know
Seems a common way to row
Get out'n coach, coach, coach
coach, coach

Broken oar don't feel so bad
Piece ain't half a what you thought you had
Take it in baby long and low
Not too fast and not too slow

And I say coach, Jimmy, coach
Gonna get there?
I don't know
Seems a common way to row
Get out'n coach, coach, coach
coach, coach

That's the way it's been in town
ever since we brought the stroke rate down
Two-k piece don't hurt no more
not so much as it done before

And I say coach, Jimmy, coach
Gonna get there?
I don't know
Seems a common way to row
Get out'n coach, coach, coach
coach, coach
