Sixteen Strokes

Some people say a boat is made out of wood,
A crew team's boat's made of muscle and blood,
Muscle and blood and skin and bones,
One guy that speaks and an eight that's strong.

You take sixteen strokes and what do you get?
Another length up and oxygen debt.
Mike Teti don't you call me 'cause I can't go,
I owe my soul to the guys in my boat.

The race started one morning when the sun didn't shine,
We locked in our oars and rowed to the line,
We took sixteen strokes into the race,
And our coxswain told us, "We're right on pace."

You take sixteen strokes and what do you get?
Another length up and oxygen debt.
Mike Teti don't you call me 'cause I can't go,
I owe my soul to the guys in my boat.

The race started one morning it was drizzling rain,
Fighting through the swells was a big ole pain,
But we'd rowed in worse, we still went fast,
T'aint no other crew's goin' to kick our ass.

You take sixteen strokes and what do you get?
Another length up and oxygen debt.
Mike Teti don't you call me 'cause I can't go,
I owe my soul to the guys in my boat.

If you see us coming, better pull aside,
A lot of boats didn't and a lot of boats died.
Our lats of iron and our legs of steel,
If our ports don't get ya, then our starboards will.

You take sixteen strokes and what do you get?
Another length up and oxygen debt.
Mike Teti don't you call me 'cause I can't go,
I owe my soul to the guys in my boat.
